Sebamed was founded on the pioneering work of Dr. Heinz Maurer, a visionary dermatologist dedicated to developing scientifically tested, gentle, and effective skincare. In the 1950s, while working in the dermatology department at the University of Bonn in Germany, Dr. Maurer saw firsthand how patients with skin conditions were placed on soap bans because traditional soaps were too harsh for their sensitive skin. He developed the iconic sebamed Cleanisng bar in 1967, and its soap-free and alkiali-free formulation has been helping to support sensitive skin ever since.
