Life can feel overwhelming, living in such a fast-paced, busy culture we often let life get in the way of our own needs and before we know it, we are not allowing ourselves any time for self-care.
By constantly putting your needs at the bottom of the pile it can eventually leave you feeling like you aren’t important and that can affect your self-confidence.
By making time for self-care and putting your own needs first every once in a while, you can boost your self-confidence and in return, gain a sense of empowerment helping you to feel like you can face each day with a positive attitude.
But how can you find the time? Here are four tips on how you can make time for self-care.
Break it up
Many people think that when we say ‘make time for self-care’ it needs to be two solid hours a day spent washing your hair and applying skincare products in your bathroom mirror, but we know how unrealistic that is for most people.
Breaking up your self-care time means you only need to dedicate a few minutes here and there to your self-care activities. For example, taking five, quiet minutes in the bathroom in the morning to use your favourite face wash and moisturiser is still a way to take time for your needs. Those five minutes could be the difference between a good day and a bad one.
Even the smallest amounts of time can make the world of difference to the way you feel about yourself.
Wake up a little earlier
Giving up any precious sleeping time sounds like something you don’t want to do, right? But waking up a few minutes earlier could have its benefits.
If you’re struggling to find any ‘me time’ during the day, setting a slightly earlier alarm might just give you that time to yourself that you’ve been craving.
Imagine the bliss when everyone else in your house is still fast asleep and you actually have twenty minutes to enjoy some peaceful self-care time – alone! Sounds like the perfect time for a hot bubble bath without interruption or a simple skincare routine.
Keep your routine simple
This is one of the most important tricks to making sure you get your self-care time. The whole point of self-care is to help you feel more relaxed, but, complicated routines can have the opposite effect on us.
Create a simple self-care routine that doesn’t require too much time or energy. A simple two step skincare routine for example, an evening facewash and hydrating lotion application is enough to help you unwind and feel relaxed.
Try to focus on how practising self-care makes you feel and let that dictate how you implement it into your daily routine.
Plan ahead
If you don’t make time for self-care, you probably aren’t going to find the time. So why not start planning ahead and scheduling self-care into your day? You could set a reminder for yourself at 7pm and make it a non-negotiable appointment.
Planning ahead could be as simple as setting an earlier morning alarm and laying out your self-care products in the bathroom before you go to bed to eliminate any preparation stress in the morning.
Remember, self-care is essential to helping you feel confident, relaxed and empowered in everyday life.
Feeling fulfilled and happy means taking care of your body, mind, and soul. When you make time to take care of yourself, you give yourself the energy you need to face each and every day, and you are absolutely worth that.
